HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Several investigations are underway after an ICE agent fatally shot a man in Houston's Magnolia Park on Tuesday, July 7, authorities said.

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, 52, was a Mexican national who allegedly attempted to evade arrest, rammed his car into a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement vehicle, and refused commands to stop, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

The agency also said Salgado Araujo tried to run over an agent, leading to the officer firing his weapon in what ICE claims is self-defense. ICE states that Salgado Araujo was hit and was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Salgado Araujo's family disputes DHS's claims and said that if the father of three U.S. citizens had known the men in the unmarked vehicles were ICE officers, he would have fully complied.

FBI discusses Houston ICE shooting in media roundtable

The warrant for Lorenzo Salgado Araujo's work van was released about a week after he was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent during an enforcement operation on July 7.

FBI Houston Special Agent in Charge Jason Hudson discussed the case during a roundtable with reporters Friday, saying the FBI was called to process the scene after the shooting.

"On July 7, we were requested to process that scene, so we did collect evidence," Hudson said. "In a very short period of time, we called in our local, state, and federal partners as well to show everything we've got. Our timeline. Everything."

Records written by ICE allege DPS tipped them before fatal shooting; DPS says record is 'incorrect'

Records obtained by ABC13 allege that DPS tipped off ICE before the deadly shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. DPS said the document is "incorrect."

New publicly available documents reveal what federal ICE agents said happened the morning of July's fatal shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo.

On July 7, a federal agent opened fire on the white van that Salgado Araujo was driving, killing him. Three other people in the white van were detained. After the shooting, ICE reported that Salgado Araujo was not the target of the enforcement operation that was being carried out.

ABC13's Daniela Hurtado went to the federal courthouse and obtained physical copies of the documents from the clerk's public document portal.

Second witness to Houston ICE shooting ordered to be released from custody, court records show

A federal judge has ordered that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security release from custody the second of three witnesses to the fatal shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent, court records show.

In court documents filed Monday, Daniel Tirado Pantoja must be released from custody within 48 hours of the order. According to the order, authorities must release Pantoja in a public space in the Southern District of Texas, and his lawyers must be given three hours' notice of his release.

This marks the second witness to the deadly shooting in Houston's East End ordered to be released by a federal judge. In July, Jose Trinidad Rojas Pliego was released from ICE detention after a federal judge's order. Both Pantoja and Rojas Pliego were passengers in Salgado Araujo's van when ICE officers began following the vehicle before shooting and killing him.
