Before joining our team, Joe spent the previous two years reporting in Minneapolis at KARE 11. There he covered major breaking news including three shootings of civilians during the deployment of ICE agents within the city, the assassination of Minnesota State Representative Melissa Hortman, as well as the shooting at Annunciation Catholic School. Joe also covered the fallout from the largest Covid-19 pandemic relief fraud scheme, where fraudsters stole more than $1 billion of taxpayer money across various state and federally funded programs. Before KARE 11, Joe was a reporter with WQAD in Rock Island, Illinois.
Joe attended Augustana College earning a degree in journalism and economics, and is from the Chicago area, the home of his favorite sports team, the Chicago Bears.
In his free time, Joe loves to stay active, whether that be playing sports, skiing, enjoying a hike, or spending time on the water. He also loves to explore new restaurants and enjoy Houston's vibrant culinary scene (recommendations welcome).
Joe is new to Houston, but is already loving all this great city has to offer.
If you have a story, issue, or concern, reach out to Joe on his social media or at joe.e.mccoy@abc.com. He looks forward to telling your stories!
