Prosecutors aim to bring several witnesses in deadly Houston ICE shooting before grand jury: DA

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare said that prosecutors intend to bring several witnesses in the deadly shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo by an ICE agent before a grand jury "fairly soon."

Teare's announcement was posted on X on Thursday afternoon by Rafael Lemaitre, the Director of Strategic Communications and Policy with the DA's office.

On Wednesday, the second man who witnessed the fatal shooting of Salgado Araujo by an ICE agent was released from custody, according to his attorney.

On Tuesday, a federal judge ordered that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security release Daniel Tirado Pantoja.

Pantoja is the second of three witnesses to Araujo's shooting death to be ordered to be released by a federal judge. In July, a federal order released Jose Trinidad Rojas Pliego from ICE detention.

Pantoja and Rojas Pliego were passengers in Araujo's van when ICE officers began following the vehicle before fatally shooting him.
