The Harris County District Attorney's Office said testing showed the substance found in Lorenzo Salgado Araujo's van tested negative for illicit narcotics.
A federal judge has ordered the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to halt the deportation of a witness in the deadly shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo by ICE agents in Houston's East End, according to court documents.
After a man was killed by ICE agents in Houston, the Harris County District Attorney's office is conducting its own investigation and turning to leaders in Minneapolis for guidance.
This comes as the FBI said they saw "white crystal-like substance packaged in small plastic bags" from outside of the van belonging to Lorenzo Salgadoi Araujo, according to documents.
According to a release from DPS, the Texas Rangers, who did not have access to the initial scene, will conduct an investigation alongside the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security.
