Police say the suspect admitted that she ran a red light, causing the deadly crash. Investigators are working to determine if she was texting while driving.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A 74-year-old woman was killed by an apparent red light runner in east Houston overnight.

The crash happened around 11:15 p.m. Wednesday on Navigation Boulevard near Macario Garcia Drive.

Houston police say the victim was driving northbound on Navigation when she was hit by another vehicle.

The driver of the other vehicle admitted to running the red light at the intersection before hitting the victim's car, police said.

The victim was transported to the hospital where she later died.

The vehicular crimes unit is investigating if the suspect was distracted at the time of the crash.

"The suspect admitted that she drove on a red light and caused the accident," Lt. Emanuel Pavel said. "We're also looking to see, because she was talking to one of the family members and somebody overheard her and she was possibly texting while driving."

Investigators say the crash happened near a fire station, so they will be looking at surveillance video to gather more evidence about what happened.

So far, no charges have been filed in connection to the crash.
