The Beaumont Enterprise reports 7-year-old Gavin McCline shouted "This is the best day ever!" after seeing his father on Tuesday afternoon.
Sgt. 1st Class Gary McCline has been stationed in Guantanamo Bay for 11 months. He called his wife on Sunday after learning he'd be returning to Beaumont this week.
Gavin on Monday started the term at Blanchette Elementary School with no idea that his father would be popping into his classroom the next day. School administrators helped arrange the surprise visit.
The family has two other children.
