Murder victim found dumped in Cypress Creek

Police say a man convinced his brother to confess to deputies that he killed his girlfriend. Her body was found this morning in Cypress Creek. Searchers tracked down a blood trail along Cypress Station and the North Freeway. Then at around 4:20am, divers pulled out the body Nafuterie Moore Brown, 27, from the creek. Investigators say her boyfriend, Michael Bryant, 26, who is now charged with murder, allegedly threw the body into the water yesterday after he fatally shot her.

"He used to come over a lot and eat with us, just hang out. He's really nice," said Bryant's neighbor, Kimberly Chavarria.

Bryant's neighbors, who say they know him well, are shocked.

"He was quiet. You wouldn't suspect him of doing anything like that," said neighbor Candace Protho. "We talked about everything. It's crazy."

Investigators say around 4:30pm yesterday, Bryant pulled a gun on Brown while they were inside a Ford Expedition at Bryant's apartment complex parking lot.

"He pulled out a gun, shot her and then forced his brother to drive down here to the water treatment plant and dump the body into Cypress Creek," said Sgt. Ben Beall with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators say Bryant's brother, Bernard Davis, was in the car and witnessed the shooting. They say he was able to convince Bryant to surrender to authorities.

"(The brother) was an unwilling participant in the disposal of the body and as soon as he was able to talk his brother into turning himself in, they went to what they thought was the closest police station," said Sgt. Beall.

Last night around 8pm, police say the two brothers walked into an HPD substation together and reportedly told the whole story, something law enforcement officers say they do not often see.

"At first, (the officer) wasn't sure if they were serious," said Sgt. Beall.

But investigators say once he confessed, Bryant's cooperation stopped. They say he didn't assist them in locating Brown's body or the murder weapon.

Authorities say there is still no clear motive in this shooting. Bryant did tell investigators he and his girlfriend had been fighting lately.
