A 26-year-old caretaker is accused of leaving two disabled adults unsupervised for several hours without proper care in Spring, according to court documents.
Workers said the accused 36-year-old man stays at the same assisted living facility as the victim, who was left unable to communicate due to the beating.
Michael Scurlock's family said the 65-year-old begged Dickinson police officers for help after being pushed, adding that he was in bad shape following it. He later died, and they're convinced the incident contributed.
"We found him on the fifth floor full of blood, with his brains badgered out," the victim's daughter told ABC13. She said her family took it upon themselves to check the complex after management claimed to have "swept the building."
ABC13 spoke to one of the victims as West University Place neighbors are on high alert following the attacks.
The boarding home owner told ABC13 when she hired the caregiver, she was aware of his criminal record, which included mostly drug charges, and was "blind-sided" by his alleged violent actions.
