3 people hospitalized after vehicle flew off Southwest Freeway NB near Beltway 8, authorities say

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Three people were hospitalized Wednesday evening when the vehicle they were in fell from the HOV lane onto the Southwest Freeway, according to Lt. Terry Garza with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

According to METRO Police Department, preliminary information indicates that a driver lost control of the vehicle, hit the HOV barrier, then became airborne and landed on the main lanes below.

According to HPD Lt. Larry Crowson, there were three women inside the car, who were taken to a hospital, and all are expected to survive.

Images shared from the scene showed multiple people working together to get the victims out of the vehicle.

As a result, the northbound main lanes of U.S. 59 were closed between West Bellfort and Beltway 8 but reopened a couple of hours later.
