HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police are looking for the driver they say struck and killed a pedestrian Thursday near downtown Houston, then fled on foot.
It happened around 2:30pm on Clinton near Jensen. Police say the driver hit a surveyor who was on the side of the road.
According to police, the driver of the vehicle got out, paced around for a bit, then tried to jump onto a nearby train. Investigators say he never made it on, but did leave the scene.
The registration of the vehicle involved comes back to a residence nearby. Police are searching the area for the driver.
As for the surveyor, he worked for Brown and Gay Engineers. The company released a statement following the accident. It reads, "First of all, let me say that we are deeply saddened by the loss of our co-worker and friend. He was field surveyor in our Houston office and was a respected member of our business family. We were notified of this tragic accident mid-afternoon, but we don't yet have the details. We will provide onsite counseling for employees."
The surveyor had been with the company since May 2011.
