The deputy says he was traveling west on Highway 242 and Harper's Landing when a BMW hit him. Upon investigation, deputies found the stop sign, which would have made the driver wait to turn onto the highway, was lying in a ditch, covered in weeds.
There is construction in the area and the sign was temporary.
