Santina Maria Broussard, 27, and is charged with injury to a child.
According to charging documents, on February 17, Broussard held down her 8-year-old as her husband beat him with a red plastic bat for not doing well in school. The boy told investigators that they had used a pole from a mop before grabbing the bat. And when the boy begged them to stop, they ignored his screaming plea.
As a result of the beating, the boy suffered bruises on both buttocks, the back of his legs, his back and arms.
When investigators questioned them, Broussard said she used the bat to discipline her son. She said her son hadn't been living with them most of his life and when he moved in several months ago, he was being disrespectful.
Broussard's husband, Syed Gillani, also is charged in connection with the incident.
