Donations for service members stolen from Girl Scouts

ESCONDIDO, CA

ABC30 in Fresno reports that the girls had a table set up outside a grocery store in Escondido. A man reportedly came out of the store, snatched up their donation box and took off on foot.

The troop leader chased after him, but he got away.

She told ABC30 the money -- about $45 or $50 -- was for Operation Thin Mint, which provides Girl Scout cookies for servicemen and women overseas.

Since the crime, other people stepped up to help the girls raise the money back, and then some. More than $300 has been collected so far to buy cookies for troops serving abroad.
