Woman's heartbreaking letter read two years after death

DES MOINES, IA

Brenda Schmitz died in September of 2011. Before her passing, she wrote a letter intended for her husband, David, and gave it to a friend with instructions to deliver it to a Des Moines radio station when the time was right.

The radio station, KSTZ, runs a Christmas wish program, asking listeners to send in wishes and with the help of sponsors, grants some of them.

The radio station brought David in last week to read Brenda's letter.

The letter reads, "When you are in receipt of this letter, I will have already lost my battle to ovarian cancer," the letter from Brenda began. "I told [my friend] once my loving husband David had moved on in his life and had met someone to share his life with again, to mail this letter to all of you at the station."

The first wish was for David, who had recently gotten engaged again, to pamper his new fiancée. She deserves it for being a stepmother to all these boys, according to the letter, which went on to say "Make her smile and know her efforts are truly appreciated."

"Thank you," Brenda added. "I love you, whoever you are."
