It happened around 10:30pm in the 7500 block of Pinemont near Hollister.
According to police, the victim was walking home from work when he was confronted by an unknown suspect in the parking lot of Shadow Creek Apartments.
Investigators said they heard saying in Spanish "no sir" multiple times before they heard several gunshots.
The victim reportedly ran to his apartment after being shot, but he collapsed and died on the second-floor balcony when his roommate opened the door.
The victim's name has not been released and there is no description of the shooter.
