HPD: Fight between roommates ends in fatal shooting in southwest Houston

HOUSTON

The victim was shot to death overnight at the Carisle apartments along Forum Park near Bissonnet. And in a phone call to neighbors this morning, the roommate said he didn't do it.

Police say the victim was shot in the head outside the complex, yet managed to walk to the street where he collapsed and died.

According to authorities, some sort of argument occurred, a gun was pulled out and shots were fired.

"It's a sad situation, sad situation and it keeps happening over and over again," said nearby resident Issac Tandoh.

Friends of the victim identified him by his first name as "Lucy" and they say he didn't deserve to die.

"He was a good person. He never bothered nobody," said the victim's friend, Damian Chew. "He was real laid back, you know what I'm saying."

"He didn't do anything bad around here. This was just childish," said another friend, Beshon Manley.

Neighbors reported hearing the gunshots.

"I heard a gunshot and a few minutes after that, I heard a girl scream and cry out here and I came out here to look," said resident Floid Bailey.

Police are still looking for the roommate to talk to him about what happened, but haven't been able to locate him.

Friends, though, were able to talk to him over the phone with police officers listening in.

"He ran, too. He ran toward the right gate and you went the other way," said a friend while on the phone with the roommate.

During this roughly five-minute conversation, the roommate never disclosed his location.

"You might as well turn yourself in instead of running," said another friend to the roommate on the phone.

During the phone conversation, the roommate never admitted to any sort of guilt. Police are still searching for him.
