A 22-year-old has been arrested after investigators determined he accidentally shot and killed a friend while smoking pot at a home in southeast Houston last year.

Alvin Roy Thomas has been charged with criminal negligent homicide in connection to the November 11, 2012 shooting of his friend, 18-year-old Jaque Field, according to the Houston Police Department.

Detectives say Thomas initially told them he and Field were sitting on the front porch of a home in the 5700 block of Reed Road when Fields grabbed the gun and it accidentally fire, striking him.

But earlier this month, investigators re-examined lab results and determined that Thomas had to be lying. When they reinterviewed him, Thomas allegedly admitted he accidentally shot Fields while they were smoking marijuana.
