Home Depot hosted safety events across town Saturday as part of Operation Save a Life, where employees explained the importance of working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
They say safety is especially important around the holidays, when fires are more common.
"You're living not only in your home but in apartments as well. Apartments, living side by side," Operation Manager Marlin Walker said. "The more information that you have and the more information that the community has, we can have a safe environment for our community."
If you need a smoke or carbon monoxide detector, call your local fire department and you may be able to get a donated device for free.
