According to the Houston Police Department, it happened at the Oaks on Bissonnet Apartments on Bissonnet near Larkwood.
"You live in a bad neighborhood like this, you've got to be on point sometimes," neighbor Joshua Garcia said.
Garcia woke up to news of a fresh murder scene outside his apartment complex. Two attackers robbed a man and woman -- both in their 20s -- and then fatally shot the male victim in the parking lot.
"No indication that these folks did anything wrong," HPD Homicide Sgt. Jonathan French said. "They're out here minding their own business and they get approached by these thugs who come out here to rob them."
Investigators said the robbery and shooting occurred just after 3am. They said the man who was killed didn't resist the suspects' requests, and he didn't live at the complex.
"We think he was here visiting someone who lived here. He was here with a friend," French said.
Detectives are searching for witnesses, surveillance video from nearby businesses and anything else that could yield leads. They're also looking into whether this murder is connected to others in the area.
It's unsettling and unthinkable for Garcia.
"Bad feeling, man," he said. "I don't like people coming here, robbing nobody."
Police said they are looking for least two Spanish-speaking assailants who fled in gray or silver sedan. Anyone with information can call HPD or Crime Stoppers.
