It was isolated, but there was minor damage throughout parts of Houston.
Witnesses say there were strong winds and some power outages in the Meyerland area. Shoppers in the area reported signs flying in the wind and tree branches snapping.
"It got real bad when I was at Chase Bank, so bad I didn't get out of the car," one area resident said. "Shopping carts and signs were blowing so I went back home."
At Beechnut and Interstate 610, there were branches down, awnings torn and a row of storage sheds all intact -- except for one.
In Bellaire, homeowners said they welcomed the rain, but not necessarily what it brought with it. One resident had a limb land on his vehicle.
"Really didn't hear the tree break or anything, but after it was over, we came outside and there was a limb on the van," he said.
A few miles away on the southeast side, neighbors heard loud thunder right before a home caught on fire on Kingdom Come and Praise Court. No one was hurt, but the back of the home was damaged. Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
All around town, residents pitched in to help clean up Monday evening, getting the mess out of the way before sundown.
