Houston mothers rally against C-sections, induced births

HOUSTON

About 50 mothers and their children rallied Monday morning near the Texas Medical Center. The group is advocating for fewer C-sections and induced births.

The mothers say women are not being informed of the true risks of these procedures offered in hospitals.

"More C-sections do not equal better care or better outcomes," said Tara Phears with Mommy Fears Nothing Doula Services. "The United States has one of highest mortality rates for infants and mothers, and we spend more money on health care than any other country in the world and we're not having better outcomes."

A study published in June shows one in three American children are born by C-section. The American College of OB-GYNs recommends natural deliveries.
