It happened July 1 when Officer Ramiro Garcia Jr., his wife and three children were coming home from a family wedding.
Ofc. Garcia is still recovering in the ICU at Memeorial Hermann Hospital.
Friends pitched in with a fundraiser Saturday, hoping to help raise money for medical expenses and help raise the family's spirits.
With hot barbecue ready to be served and the silent auction right on schedule, Linda Garcia, her three children and the rest of her family were enjoying hugs and smiles from friends. But in the back of this wife's mind, was her husband.
"My girls are all daddy's girls, and they love him very much and they want him back," she said.
Ofc. Garcia, a devoted family man and dedicated police officer, is now lying in a hospital bed after the vehicle he and his family were riding in flipped. His 13-year-old daughter was ejected. Ofc. Garcia suffered the most critical injuries. He was ejected from the vehicle and suffered major head trauma.
"He's been my partner for 14 years. My husband," Linda Garcia said. "I've known him since I was eight, so it's really hard not having him now."
The family has been given a bleak prognosis, but their faith is strong.
"And we know God makes miracles and things are going to be better for us and that's encouraging," sister Yvonne Robles said.
"We know that he is strong enough to pull through this," sister-in-law Isela Arredondo said.
If you missed the benefit, you can still make a donation. The family has set up a way to donate at YouCaring.com/Team Ram.
