Patrick announced today he will be campaigning for the office after seven years in the Senate.
"Recent events in the Texas Senate have confirmed the feeling that I have had for a while now," said Senator Patrick in a press release.
Patrick joins a 2014 primary that already includes current Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson and Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples.
Dewhurst has been Texas' lieutenant governor since 2003.
