Second arson suspect arrested after clothing store blaze

HOUSTON

Van Orman surrendered himself on Friday at the Montgomery County Jail on charges of second-degree felony arson and an unrelated felony charge of forgery, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities say Orman and his accomplice, Jon David Fletcher, set fire to the closing store in the Westwood Shopping Center just before closing time on July 3 while employees and customers were still inside. The suspects had intended to rob the store during the fire but they panicked and fled instead.

Security cameras caught the duo on camera, and during the investigation, detectives identified them as the suspects.

Fletcher was arrested soon after the blaze and has since pleaded guilty for his role in the arson, authorities say. Orman, however, fled the area and had been hiding since. Eventually, detectives tracked him down in Williamson County, near Austin, where he had been staying with family and friends.

Orman has since been released from jail on bonds $105,000 and is awaiting trial.
