Police say Joshua Niswonger, 19, and a 16-year-old boy broke into the Carnes Brothers Funeral Home at about 3am Wednesday. They apparently stole the keys from an employee vehicle, but once in the building, an alarm sounded, and an alert neighbor called 911.
Police say the teens tried to steal a laptop computer and embalming fluid. The chemical is sometimes used by marijuana users to create a dangerous drug combination called fry, created by soaking cigarettes in the fluid.
However, the funeral home owner said the teens inadvertantly targeted a different chemical that is highly flammable, and could have posed a serious fire danger.
Niswonger has been charged with burglary of a building and is being held in the Galveston County Jail on a $2,000 bond. The 16-year-old is being held in the juvenile justice center.
