Two people were killed in an early Sunday morning crash in Montgomery County.

It happened on Mt. Zion Road at North Clark. Texas Department of Public Safety troopers were called to the scene around 6:40am.

According to DPS officials, 38-year-old Jerry Hamm was driving east on Mt. Zion when he missed the curve and overcorrected, causing his vehicle to slide down the road before hitting several trees.

The impact almost split the vehicle in two, investigators said.

Hamm was killed in the accident along with a passenger officials have identified as 23-year-old James Sumrall. Both were from New Waverly and within a mile of home.
