Men riding ATVs discover human skull, other remains

HOUSTON

The find was discovered at about 7:30pm Thursday, along a pipeline right of way about 200 yards off of County Road 332 about half a mile east of Highway 59. Two men riding ATVs discovered the remains and called the Liberty County Sheriff's Office. Investigators at the scene quickly recovered a human skull and smaller remains.

As darkness fell, the search operation was suspended until Friday morning. Deputies and investigators are searching the crime scene and surrounding wooded area for additional remains and evidence. Volunteers from EquuSearch plan to assist in the search for evidence and clues to the victim's identity.

At this time, authorities don't know the age, race or sex of the victim. They believe the bones are from just one person, and they have been in the location for quite some time. They are checking records of missing persons cases in the area, and the remains will be sent to a lab for forensic testing.
