Authorities probing alleged stash house stumble upon alleged grow house next door

HOUSTON

The two homes are located in the 1100 block of Sawgrass Ridge, which is near the area of Imperial Valley and Richey.

Around 4pm, canine units were dispatched to the alleged stash home after detectives were tipped off about 21 illegal immigrants who were being kept there. But when the dogs arrived, they picked up a scent at the house right next door. When Precinct 4 went inside the neighboring home, they found a grow house.

As a result, four different agencies packed into the street to investigate both homes.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office and agents from the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement are working together to investigate the stash house, while the Harris County Pct. 4 Office is working with the Drug Enforcement Agency to probe the grow house.

According to ICE officials, the stash house had 16 males and 5 females from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico. We were told most of them were young, possibly in their early teens.

Meanwhile, authorities investigating the grow house say they found $500,000 worth of marijuana inside.
