Accident leaves one dead in northwest Houston

Police are on the scene of a fatal accident in northwest Houston this morning.

The accident happened just before 6am on Hempstead Highway near Campbell.

According to HPD, two vehicles were travelling eastound on Hempstead when the driver in a Toyota Camry was blindsided by high beam headlights and didn't see the Ford Focus in front of him stopped. There were two people inside the Ford Focus. They were both transported to the hospital. The female passenger was pronounced dead at the hospital, police say.

The driver of the Camry suffered minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital.

Hempstead Highway was shut down in both directions due to the police investigation.

The victim hasn't been identified.
