The order to eliminate 25 percent of the 'take home' cars came from Sheriff Troy E. Nehls on Tuesday.
"My staff evaluated every assigned car," Nehls said. "Employees who were driving cars home and whose duties did not justify the need for a take-home car, had them taken away."
Nehls says eliminating these 45 take-home cars will save the county more than $100,000 a year in gas and maintenance costs.
