An off-duty Houston Police Department officer was struck by a vehicle Saturday while working at the American Heart Association's Houston Heart Walk at Reliant Park, officials said.

It happened just before 11:30am in the 8400 block of Lantern Point at Westridge, just west of Reliant Stadium.

According to police, the officer was directing traffic when she was hit by a car leaving the Houston Heart Walk. The driver stayed at the scene and will likely receive a citation, officials said.

The officer's injuries were not life-threatening. Authorities said she suffered bruises and a cut lip.

No additional details were immediately released. Police said this is a good reminder for drivers to pay attention when driving and to resist distractions, especially in high-traffic situations.
