Dallas County officials say they will not remove any names from the rolls until after the November elections. County Election Supervisor Tony Pippins-Poole tells KXAS-TV of Dallas and fort Worth that federal law prohibits changing the rolls less than 60 days before a federal election.
Harris County also has balked at the state's insistence for a purge of the rolls. The Harris County Attorney's Office accused the state of levying threats and refused to budge.
The Social Security Administration has flagged about 81,000 Texas voters as potentially dead. A new state law requires rolls to be checked against the federal agency's death master file, which is known to have errors.
