Galveston man gets prison for hacking Texas DPS

AUSTIN, TX

Prosecutors say 31-year-old Higinio O. Ochoa III of Galveston must also pay more than $14,000 in restitution. Ochoa in June pleaded guilty to accessing a protected computer without authorization.

Investigators say Ochoa in February also hacked into computers operated by the West Virginia Chiefs of Police Association, the Alabama Department of Public Safety and Houston County, Ala.

Ochoa downloaded personal information, deleted data and defaced websites then bragged about it online. Prosecutors say Ochoa, who was sentenced Friday in Austin, claimed to be part of a computer hacker group known as Anonymous.
