Police: Woman stole car, attacked officer

HOUSTON

Police said 27-year-old Lucille Dottie Atkins carjacked someone at a gas station on Strawberry at Southmore after causing a scene inside the store.

According to investigators, she left the store and got into the backseat of a vehicle parked outside. The driver of that car jumped out. That's when Atkins allegedly got into the front seat of the car.

With police headquarters just across the street, an officer arrived quickly and approached the vehicle as Atkins was trying to drive away. Police said she hit the officer as she fled.

That officer was not seriously injured. But police said the woman's adventure did not end there.

Officials said Atkins made it a few miles away before she crashed the stolen car on Southmore at Allen Genoa in Houston. According to authorities, she hit a vehicle with three people inside. All three were taken to an area hospital with unknown injuries.

Atkins was arrested after the accident and charged with aggravated assault of a peace officer, intoxicated assault and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Total bond was set at $35,000.
