Preschooler aids arson case against her mother

HOUSTON

Kirenzia DeShay Hyder, 23, is charged with arson for a February 12 fire at a home in the 1200 block of Hawks Nest. According to court documents, an investigator with the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office determined the fire was deliberately set near a window on the side of the home. The homeowner and his wife were both inside the house at the time.

Hyder, court documents state, has a three-year-old daughter with the grandson of the fire victims. Investigators say the preschooler told them she and her mother went to the grandparents' house and she saw her mother go the side of the home and light a candle.

The girl's father told authorities that when he confronted Hyder about the fire she said she was angry and "in a bad place at the time."

Officials say cell phone records put Hyder in the location of the fire at the time of the crime.

Bond has been set at $20,000.
