A Nueces County grand jury on Thursday indicted 30-year-old Joshua Atwood of Portland. Atwood was jailed Friday with bond set at $501,000. He's also charged with resisting arrest.
Police say Atwood originally was charged with aggravated assault in last July's attack on 52-year-old Todd Atwood during a burglary.
The Corpus Christi Caller-Times reports the father suffered head trauma and was in a coma until his April death.
