HPD: Driver ran over, killed a man outside bar

HOUSTON

It happened around 5:30am at Club Olympus in the 9100 block of Winkler near the Gulf Freeway.

Crime scene tape surrounded the parking lot Sunday afternoon. Inside the barrier, a man was dead on the pavement, an SUV was smashed and the man police say is responsible was gone.

"Some of the employees in the club believe they know who it is, so we're following up on those leads right now," HPD Sgt. Kerry Shaw said.

Police say a man in a pickup truck was driving erratically, doing donuts in the parking lot after he left the club.

According to investigators, the driver ran over a man who was walking to his car. He then smashed into an SUV and sped out of the parking lot, police said.

The driver got away, but the man he hit died instantly. His name has not been released.

Two women who were in the SUV when the driver struck it are recovering from minor injuries.

Valerie Arrianga's mother is one of them.

"When he hit the car, her friend kind of flew out of the car. She was there for a little while and they finally got her to get up," Arrianga said.

Police continue to interview witnesses, looking for clues on where the driver may have gone. They suspect he had been drinking.

Authorities are searching for a black Dodge full-size pickup truck with a lift kit and large tires. The truck will have damage to the front left side.

Witnesses describe the driver as a clean-shaven Latino man in his mid-30s.

Anyone with information on this case or the whereabouts of the pickup is urged to call police or Crime Stoppers.
