Parents and students rallied for school choice Saturday outside KIPP Explore Academy, a charter school in southeast Houston.
State Senator Dan Patrick says thousands of local children want to attend charter schools, but the state has a cap on the number of charter campuses.
He supports legislation to expand the program.
"No child should be robbed of a chance of a quality education because they happen to live in a neighborhood where there's a poor performing school," he said.
