Kane County prosecutors say 42-year-old Claudia Chagoya of El Paso, Texas, agreed Wednesday to a 20-year prison sentence. She pleaded guilty to a felony drug charge. A Kane County sheriff's deputy stopped Chagoya's vehicle in April after she didn't signal when exiting Interstate 90. The deputy's search found the vehicle's driveshaft was filled with seven kilograms of heroin.
Prosecutors say Chagoya told authorities she was working with a Mexican drug cartel to move the heroin from Mexico to the Chicago area. She said she was paid $1,000 and was to be paid more when she returned to Texas.
Prosecutors say it was the largest Kane County heroin seizure "in recent memory."
