Newton County Emergency Management coordinator Billy Ted Smith says the fire was extinguished by about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. The accident site is in the southern part of the county.
KFDM-TV reports one worker was taken by medical helicopter to a Galveston hospital. No details were immediately available on the worker's condition. Two other injured workers were treated at the scene.
Smith says authorities are trying to determine what caused the rig to catch fire.
