Esvin Sabonluis and his wife were walking from their apartment to their vehicle in the parking lot when they were approached and greeted casually by two men. As Sabonluis and his wife got into their vehicle, the suspects robbed them at gunpoint. While demanding the victims' property, the suspects shot and killed Sabonluis. It is believed the suspects then fled the scene on foot. Sabonluis, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police determined the suspects had arrived at the Fairdale location in a vehicle stolen in a robbery at 12475 Woodforest the previous day. In that incident, a man was robbed of his vehicle, wallet and cell phone by four suspects. The vehicle, a black Chevrolet Avalanche, was located abandoned at the Fairdale location.

The search continues for the second suspect, described only as a black male in his early to mid 20s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with dark skin and a thin build.
