Dad accused of telling son to beat up another student

BAYTOWN, TX

The father adamantly denies doing anything wrong. He says he's innocent. He told police he was just tired of a bully picking on his son.

According to Baytown police Jorge Paredes, 30, drove his 11-year-old son to a bus stop Friday morning in the 4700 block of Ripple Creek Drive, where the son got out and beat up a 13-year-old boy. Court documents allege that Paredes drove his son to the bus stop specifically "...to beat him up..."

Detective Edgar Elizondo with the Baytown Police Department said, "The father did not do anything to prevent the fight."

Eyewitnesses told police Paredes was even encouraging his son.

"Several witnesses stated that he was telling his son to choke him and also to punch him," Det. Elizondo said.

After the fight, authorities say Paredes then drove off with his son. Now police say he and his son are both charged with injury to a child -- a felony.

Paredes refused to talk to us on camera about the allegations. He insists he is innocent.

The boy's mother talked to us at length about what she says was a pattern of bullying that led to this incident. She says she repeatedly reported that to the school district and she claims her husband was only defending her son from a boy who had terrorized him coming and going from school for more than a year. She claims her son was only defending himself.

Goose Creek ISD says it is now investigating those allegations of prior bullying.

We found Paredes at his home, despite an open warrant being out for his arrest. Bond has been set at $5,000. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison.

Paredes has two prior convictions -- for DWI in 2001 and for assault of a family member in 2009.
