It happened on F.M. 1960 at Theiss Rd. in north Harris County around 4am Sunday.
According to the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office, a Honda car was westbound on 1960 when the driver crossed the oncoming eastbound lanes and left the roadway, striking a tree.
Investigators said the driver was going at a high rate of speed, and the impact was so great that the car split in half.
There were two men inside. One died at the scene, and the other was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in serious but stable condition.
Deputies are investigating the cause of the crash. It is unknown which one of the two males was driving.
