The Texas Department of Transportation has issued a Silver Alert for High, who hasn't been seen in days. Overnight, the car she was believed to be in and its license plates were flashing on highway signs across the state.
The Laura Recovery Center says the Silver Alert was activated Wednesday morning. High's children say it was put in place after they called their state representative. A description of the rental car she's believed to be driving along with the Texas license plate number are now flashing on highway signs across the state.
Family members say they are desperate and are running out of time.
High was reported missing Monday night after she didn't show up to work that morning at a southeast Houston Chase Bank. She has been a bank teller for 20 years.
Her children checked her house and could tell that she had taken her medication, had a cup of coffee and handled paperwork for bills before she left. They say everything was intact in the house, but her purse and rental car were missing.
All day Tuesday, volunteers with the Laura Recovery Center were handing out flyers with High's picture and a picture of the car she was last seen driving -- a black, 4-door Dodge Avenger rental car.
"We've been going over to as far as Kemah to Baytown up north to Spring, just trying to distribute her picture as widely as possible in hopes that somebody recalls seeing her," said Dawn Davis with the Laura Recovery Center.
The rental car High is driving doesn't have a GPS system. Family members say they've contacted the rental company, Enterprise, to see if there's any way to track it her movement through the EZ tag.
Volunteers with Texas Equusearch were also out searching fields on ATVs and by car near High's route to work.
Area hospitals have been contacted and Houston police have checked both airports and the cruise terminal in Galveston just in case.
"I believe that we are doing all that we can with the fact that's she in a vehicle driving. We are working around the clock on this case," said Ineke Chavez with the Houston Police Department.
Her family and friends are not giving up. On Tuesday night, High's church members held a prayer service for her safe return.
"She contributes in any way. She's always here when you need something to be done. She's here to do it," said church member Chrissie Emmons. "She comes for Sunday school. She comes for the regular service and she hardly ever misses. She's a regular contributor in every part of the church and if you need anything done, you can call her in and she would be glad to do whatever she can do."
Her children say High has had several mini-strokes in the past and they are worried because she does not have her medication with her.
"Mom is on medication and this medication, if she doesn't get it within 24 hours -- she's already missed one day, today would be the second day -- and without the medication, the risk of stroke and further affects the dementia," said High's daughter, Barbara Lambert.
Her other daughter, Amy McClure, said, "She gave us our foundation and Heavenly Father is the only thing that's carrying us through this right now and He knows where she is and I know He's taking care of her. I believe that she is still alive and I just want to find her and get her home with us."
High was last seen driving that black 4-door Dodge Avenger with Texas plate CD6-J492. High's own car was in the shop for repairs.
