If you haven't checked out Discovery Green, you are missing out on some great free events. This weekend Fantasia will be show on the big screen out there.
But first, this weekend Saturday and Sunday, participate at the city's first Taiwan Festival. It's a centennial celebration honoring the establishment of the Republic of China. The fun lasts from 11am until 6pm. Both days at the Stafford Center in southwest Houston. Activities range from rice-eating contests, traditional music and dances, acrobatics and cooking demonstrations. Kids 10 and under are free and there will be a special area filled with moonwalks, carnival games, and other fun activities!
Fall is officially here and Pottery Barn is hosting a complimentary design class Sunday September 25 at 10am. The class focuses on living room décor, emphasizing a stylish, unique, inviting room, which instructors will show you how to create from bare beginnings to that just right, finishing touch. Call your area Pottery Barn to reserve your spot!
Listen up history buffs, because Hotel Galvez is hosting a free presentation. As part of the Galvez's Centennial Celebration, it shows key Galveston businesses, buildings, and highlights in 1911 through photographs, color postcards, and business advertisements from the Rosenberg Library's archival collection. Visitors may view the presentation at the hotel in the Hall of Galveston History at no charge through the month of September.
Discovery Green has loads of free activities this upcoming week, so you won't want to miss out. There will be exercise classes from yoga, to hula dance, to Bumba, and even kayaking! Check the local calendar for times and locations. Also, Saturday night, Disney's Fantasia will be shown on the big screen Saturday night at 7:30pm. So bring your lawn chairs and blankets.
The Miller Outdoor Theatre has some great events this weekend. Friday and Saturday night at 8pm is the weekend of Texas Contemporary Dance. Then Saturday at 11am, Dance around the World will take place. On Sunday at 8pm, there will be a showing of Incredible India. Then on Monday at 11am, something fun for the little ones -- the Velveteen Rabbit Opera at 11am.
