Colleagues say a Fort Carson, Colo.-based soldier who was killed in Afghanistan was a leader who exuded calm in times of crisis.

The Army post held a memorial service Wednesday for Master Sgt. Charles L. Price III of Milam, Texas.

The 40-year-old former drill sergeant died Aug. 12 from wounds from a roadside bomb in Kandahar province.

He was on his sixth deployment since entering the Army in 1989. He also served in Iraq, Kosovo, Kuwait, the Balkans and Saudi Arabia.

His decorations included the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal, five Army Commendation Medals and nine Army Achievement Medals.

Price was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.
