Deputy shoots suspect in fast food robbery, chase

HOUSTON

It happened at the Sonic on West Little York near the Eastex Freeway in northeast Harris County. Deputies say this was all the result of two suspects refusing to comply with multiple orders to halt.

Harris County Sheriff's deputies say two men were in the process of robbing a Sonic restaurant just 20 minutes before midnight as the store was getting ready to close. A 911 caller described two men in baseball caps wearing bandanas. When deputies arrived, they say they found the two men who took off running.

Authorities say one of the suspects, armed with a shotgun, ran north from the restaurant and into some bushes. That suspect was later caught by an HCSO K-9 unit.

Deputies witnessed the second suspect, armed with a pistol, flee south from the business. After refusing commands to stop, an HCSO deputy fired his gun, striking the suspect at least once in the leg. The suspect collapsed and was taken into custody.

No HCSO personnel were injured.

The suspects in this case are identified as Andrea Gill, 32, and Lonnie Walker, 23. Both are charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and aggravated assault on a peace officer. Gill was captured by the K-9 unit and Walker suffered the gunshot wound to the leg. Walker was taken to Ben Taub Hospital and is expected to be alright.
