Woman gets 30 years for money, guns trafficking

AUSTIN, TX

Federal prosecutors say Aurelia Ochoa Hernandez was sentenced Monday in Austin. She was convicted in May of conspiracy to smuggle firearms, making false statements in firearm records and money laundering.

Investigators say Hernandez was part of a ring smuggling firearms to drug traffickers. An affidavit says Hernandez would break down the guns, wrap them in carpet and drive the items to Mexico.

A jury in Austin earlier this year convicted Pedro Daniel Tovar of conspiracy to smuggle firearms, conspiracy to make false statements in firearms records and three counts of making false statements in firearms records. Tovar was sentenced Monday to eight years in prison.
