Police said the 33-year-old driver was northbound on Space Center Blvd. when she lost control of her sports utility vehicle at a curve in the roadway.
She went off the road and crashed into a large metal sewage pipe in a bayou.
Officials said she died at the scene.
Police are investigating what led to the accident.
The woman's identity has not been released.
