Boy, 4, died of genetic heart problem after soccer
HOUSTON
The report by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences
obtained Thursday by The Associated Press says Cade Carpenter died
of hypertrophic cardiopmyopathy. That is a genetic disorder that
causes the heart, or parts of it, to become inflamed or enlarged,
making it difficult for blood to flow.
Carpenter collapsed at soccer practice on April 20. He was
pronounced dead a few hours later at a hospital.
Paramedics performed CPR and used an automatic external
defibrillator to try to restart his heart.
